There are seven basic SVG shape elements: line, polyline, circle, rectangle, polygon, ellipse and path. In point of fact, all of the shape elements are variations of the underlying path element, which acts as an API for drawing every vector shape in SVG.
This reading list covers them all*; the g element has been added since it is frequently used to group shape elements.
